Manick Sorcar
Manick Sorcar (formal name Prafulla C. Sorcar) is a leading engineering consultant, specializing in lighting since the early 1970s and is a registered professional engineer in many States. Shortly after graduating with his master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Washington (Seattle, USA), where he attended on a tuition scholarship, Sorcar was a junior electrical engineer with 'Howard Butterweck & Co', a reputable consulting engineering firm of Denver, Colorado.
Sorcar quickly worked his way up to the position of vice-president when the company incorporated in 1974 recognizing him as one of the principals and changing its name to "Butterweck-Sorcar Engineering, Inc." The firm is now titled Sorcar Engineering, Inc, and he serves as its Chief Executive Officer and President. Over the last three decades, Sorcar has been the project engineer for a variety of small to large multimillion dollar projects which include Denver International Airport, Colorado Convention Center, laboratories for Colorado Department of Health and Environment, a palace for prince H.H. Faisal Bin Sultan in Saudi Arabia, and fitness & sport centers in Japan.
An expert in energy saving and architectural lighting design, Sorcar is the author of three texts on the subject. "Rapid Lighting Design & Cost Estimating" (McGraw-Hill, 1979) was a ‘Book of the Month’ awarded by the Architects' Book Club, "Energy Saving Lighting Systems" (Van Nostrand Reinhold , 1982) a practical application oriented reference book, and "Architectural Lighting For Commercial Interiors" (John Wiley & Sons, 1987) - a widely popular book dealing with the sciences, arts, psychology, physiology, aesthetics, and vision aspects of lighting design. This book is a recommended book by the Department of Energy, U.S. Government, for their Federal Energy Management Program 'FEMP' and Energy Efficiency for Commercial Buildings 'EREC Program', whose mission is to 'reduce the cost of government by advancing energy efficiency'. His last two books have been in use as a text for Architectural Engineering at several universities for undergraduate courses including at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and PennState University, Pennsylvania, USA and Jadavpur University, India. All his books are listed in "The Lighting Source Catalog" of Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, available in libraries, book stores and on several websites including Amazon.com and Barnes&Noble.com
Sorcar is also an accomplished artist, laserist, and internationally acclaimed animator. He has received a host of awards from international film festivals over the past two decades.
